About Us Award Winners History Support Home

The Theatre World Awards were initiated in 1944 and are the oldest awards given to debut performances in New York City for Broadway and Off-Broadway. In 1995, the Theatre World Awards were incorporated as a "501(c)3" in order to preserve the tradition of seeking out and recognizing outstanding new talent.

All contributions to the Theatre World Awards, Inc. are 100% TAX DEDUCTIBLE, and go directly toward the preparation, coordination, and presentation of the annual Theatre World Awards ceremony which, over the past 65 years, has become known as one of the most enjoyable, moving, and memorable events of the theatre season.

Twelve veteran Theatre World Award winners come together annually to present the Theatre World Award to twelve newcomers, and the importance of that early recognition of talent is obvious to them all, from the neophyte to the noteworthy, as they accept this non-competitive honor which depends not on reviews, box office receipts, or publicity, but rather on the strength of the individual performers themselves. Further, all debut performers, whether starring or featured, are eligible for the Theatre World Award.

The Theatre World Awards board, committee, and advisors are presently involved in a campaign to create an endowment to ensure that the recognition of important new performers continues into perpetuity.

Please join us in inspiring these talented actors and actresses and assist in the inspiration of their growth, creativity, and success in a business that does not always or continually shine on even its most promising.
